How to play
Five questions. One map. About five minutes.
The shape of a run
A pack is five sections. Each section is a prompt plus a map. Your job is to drop a pin on the spot the prompt is talking about. Your score for that section is the distance between your pin and the target, with the closer pins earning more points. After section five your total is stamped on the daily leaderboard.
Step by step
- Open today's pack. Click 'Play today's pack' from the home page. You'll see the first of five sections — a prompt at the top, a world map below.
- Read the prompt. The prompt names a place, an event, a stadium, or a fact. The answer is always somewhere on the map. Some prompts include an image hint.
- Drop your pin. Click or tap the spot on the map you think is correct. You can drag the pin around before locking it in.
- Optional: use a hint. Each section may offer one or more hints. Each hint costs points if you use it — the cheaper hints reveal less, the expensive ones reveal more. Choose carefully.
- Submit and see your distance. When you confirm, the map reveals the target pin and the distance from yours. Your score for this section comes from how close you landed, minus any hint penalties.
- Finish all five sections. Sections aren't timed individually, but a single run-through is one sitting — leaving and coming back continues your run, it doesn't restart it.
- Land on the leaderboard. After section five, your total score gets stamped on the daily leaderboard. There's a public results page you can share if you want.
How scoring works
Each section has a maximum point value (called its weight) and a distance cap (the farthest pin that earns any points at all). Land inside the cap and your score curves from full points at the target down to zero at the cap. Past the cap you get nothing for that section.
Hints subtract from the section score, not the total. A cheap hint might cost 5% of the weight; an expensive one 30%. The total possible score on a pack is the sum of all weights minus the hints you used.
One run per pack
You can’t restart today’s pack to chase a better score. Once you finalize, that’s your run. If you want to replay the puzzle for fun, jump into the archive and use practice mode — practice runs don’t touch the leaderboard or your streak.
Streaks and the leaderboard
Your streak counts consecutive days you’ve completed a pack. Miss a day, streak resets. The leaderboard shows the top scores for the current day; pick a date from the dropdown to browse past days.
