Who we are

Drop The Pin (“we,” “us,” “our”) operates the website at dropthepin.xyz (the “Service”). This policy describes what information we collect when you use the Service, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

An account is optional — you can play anonymously, or sign in with an email if you want your runs to follow you across devices. We collect the minimum information needed to run the game and improve it:

  • Anonymous device identifier. When you first visit, we generate a random ID and store it in your browser’s local storage so we can track your streak and place your score on the leaderboard. It is not linked to your name, email, or other personal data.
  • Email address (optional).Only collected if you choose to sign in. It’s used to authenticate you (via a magic link sent by our auth provider, Clerk) and to link your runs across devices. We don’t use it for marketing.
  • Display name. If you set one on your profile, it appears on the public leaderboard. You can change or clear it at any time.
  • Gameplay data. The pins you drop, your scores, and how long each question took. This is used to grade your run and rank you on the leaderboard.
  • Technical data. Standard server logs (IP address, user agent, request paths) and aggregated performance metrics (page load times, errors).

Cookies and similar technologies

We and our partners use cookies and similar technologies to operate the Service, measure usage, and serve advertising. These include:

  • Essential storage. Browser local storage holds your anonymous device ID and current game progress. A server-issued dtp_pid httpOnly cookie binds your device to its game profile.
  • Analytics & advertising.Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, and Google AdSense use cookies to measure traffic and serve ads. Consent for these cookies is managed by Google’s certified consent management platform; visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland see a consent prompt before any personalized advertising or analytics cookies are set. You can revisit your choice at any time from the “Privacy & Cookies” link surfaced by Google’s prompt.

Third-party advertising

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.

You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized ads at aboutads.info.
